One of the most controversial and emotionally charged subjects of daily life between two people are the expected responsibilities within the household. Often delegation of responsibilities evolves, sometimes equitably. However, more often that not one of the partners takes on the larger load.
There’s an old story about a rich man who wished to buy a bride. He visited the village of his youth looking for a suitable mate. Many lovely young women tried to catch his eye, but they weren’t quite what he had in mind.
As a new bride I once did something totally irrational and embarrassing. I had thought I would never tell a soul about the experience—except for confessing it to my new husband. But, it perfectly illustrates the message of this devotional and I feel I must admit it.

"We can talk about anything."......"We're very open with one another."......"I can tell him (her) anything."......How many times have we heard ourselves say this to our family and friends about the person we have decided to marry? It is with much regret, however, that couples whose marriages didn't make it realize they didn't talk about the important topics, weren't open enough on the hot subjects, and hesitated in telling her or him everything on their personal agenda. It is not so much a failure to communicate as it is a failure to have specific conversations on critical issues that can undermine the bonds and foundations to any relationship.
I once heard a story of a bridegroom to be who could barely contain his excitement. On the day he purchased his fiancés wedding band, he arrived at the mall with great anticipation. He climbed out of his car and walked with a spring in his step. The jewelry store happened to be on the second floor.
Who pays for what is one of the most controversial and heart- breaking issues of wedding planning. The simplest and most basic rule of the etiquette of wedding finances is that a couple cannot insist that either set of parents pay more than those parents feel they can afford.
There are a lot of things in life I enjoy: Flowers, children’s laughter, a new dress, a night out at a fancy restaurant, pretty things, and happy moments. But, it really is true that the very deepest and best things in life have been the kisses of the Bridegroom.
After all that is said and done on that glorious wedding day, the one thing that the two of you share, despite any differences you may have uncovered, is 'The Future'. Now you have a partner to help you and be assisted by you; to guide you and to follow you; and to enhance your life while you enhance his or her life.
